I hope that you and your families have had a great summer. I would like to bring you up to speed with a variety of topics and I also have a few requests.
We are very pleased with the progress we have made this year with our exam results.
At A Level 98% of our students passed 2 or more A Levels at A*- E grades and 89% passed 3 or more. These are an improvement on previous years and compare favourably with local non-selective schools. It is great news that all of our Year 13 students who applied for university have been successful in securing a place.
At GCSE we have achieved our best ever results with 68% of our year 11 students achieving 5 or more A* - C grades, including English and Maths. We are particularly pleased with the performance in core subjects, especially science where results have seen a significant improvement.
Obviously I am very proud of all of our students and staff. I would also like to acknowledge the excellent support provided by the parents of our students.
I would like to emphasise the importance of students attending school every day. There is a significant link between attendance and student achievement. Improving attendance to above 96% for all of our students is a key priority for us this year. There are a number of initiatives we are taking to promote good attendance – some are likely to be well received, others not.
Can I ask that you do not make any requests for your child to miss school for family holidays during term time?
We have had a very smooth start to the year. Students have returned to school wearing their school uniform with pride. I would like to thank you for your continued support which contributes to the high standards in our school.
Show my Homework
This year we are using the software program ‘Show my Homework’ to record the homework we set for students. Your son should have brought home a slip last week which shows your log on details and instructions in order for you to check homework that has been set. If for any reason you didn’t receive your log on details please get in touch with us.
Please be aware that our Open Evening will take place on Monday 19 September between 6pm and 8.30pm. School will close for students at 1.10pm on this day in order for staff to prepare for the evening.
Current students will be encouraged to work with staff on the evening so that Year 6 students and their parents get a real sense of the school, especially the excellent student/ staff relationships we have at KNBS.
If your son has been invited to attend, he should present you with a permission letter. Please sign and return this as soon as possible.
As a school, we are proud of the range of activities we provide for our students, in particular our outdoor pursuit activities.
Most of our activities involve additional costs and rely on funds beyond the normal school budget. Therefore we ask for a £10 contribution per year to our school fund. Please return your school fund payment, along with the completed school fund form, to the finance office.
Thank you to the Year 7 parents who have already made their contribution.
